Carleton carries on the tradition pioneered by Kevin Annett. You exploit the misery of indigenous people unhappy with their lives by finding a convenient scapegoat. Residential schools play that role, but you need something more dramatic, so you claim that residential schools not only hurt students, the people running them killed and secretly buried thousands of students. Exploit existing anti-Catholic bigotry to make the bad guys priests. The TRC latched on to this vile nest of lies when the principled Harry Laforme was forced out as commissioner and new AFN approved commissioners took his place. And the Catholic Church, and perhaps other denominations, aren't doing themselves or any other Canadians any favours by doing things as described in this article linked below. If anything, these "agreements" are to all intents and purposes tacit admissions of something and will be seized upon as full admissions by Carleton et al. The farther the fall from grace, the greater the eventual salvation, etc.

Unquestionably, Carleton and Annett are Canada's top fiction writers and both worthy contenders for the prestigious Giller Award for most outrageous nonsensical fiction. Their writings are treasured and honored by the most gullible readers in Canada and deserve a special place in the Yellow Journalism Hall of Shame.
